Today I have a really cool polish to show you all! Essie Repstyle is from the new Repstyle collection, which are all magnetic polishes. To use these polishes you have to paint one coat of colour and let it dry. Then, paint a second coat of colour individually nail-by-nail, and immediately hover the magnetic cap over the wet polish for 5-10 seconds. And voila, you have a snakeskin pattern!

There was a bit of a learning curve with Repstyle where I would hold the magnet too close to my nail and smear the pattern. But after a few test nails I got the hang of it and had no trouble at all achieving a strong snakeskin pattern. The magnet was really strong and I only had to hold it over my nail for 5 seconds for great results.
I didn't use a basecoat when applying Repstyle, but I did use a quick-dry topcoat (NYC Grand Central Station) and it didn't smudge or blur the effect at all. I just made sure to wait a bit longer than normal (5-10 minutes) before applying topcoat.
Repstyle is definitely one of the coolest nail polishes I own. I received it as a Christmas gift and I'm really glad that I did because I'm not sure I would have picked it up myself. Watching the magnet change the polish and form the pattern is amazing! I'm a disaster at nail art, so this is a nice and easy way to get a pattern on my nails without suffering defeat. Do you have any magnetic polishes?

Loving this color :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it, Vicky! :)
DeleteThat is pretty darn neat! Sure makes it a heck of a lot easier than striping tape I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty hopeless with nail art so I'm glad this is so much easier, haha!
DeleteYour reptile design came out really great, but i keep seeing mixed reviews for these!
ReplyDeleteI've heard mixed reviews too, which is why I was so pleasantly surprised when mine turned out ok! The magnet was really easy to use for me...maybe I got lucky? :)
DeleteA great way to get a stunning effect :) xx
ReplyDeleteI think so too! <3
DeleteWoah this is so cool! I always worry with magnets that they aren't strong enough to put down a crisp design, but I'm glad you were able to do so with this one. :-)

I was worried too, so I'm happy to report that this one didn't give me any trouble after the initial learning curve! I'm not used to having designs on my nails so this was fun to wear :)
