December Favourites!

Hi everyone! I hope 2013 is treating you very well in its early days. I went back to work on Wednesday after an almost two week vacation, so I've been feeling pretty zombified the last couple days. Luckily it's only a three day week, which means it's almost the weekend! Yay! This post isn't a top of 2012 list, but let's take a look at what I was loving in December!

Nail Polish

Smitten Polish The Holly and the Ivy

With some many festive holiday polishes released in December, it was hard to narrow it down to pick one that was my favourite. I ended up wearing Smitten Polish The Holly and the Ivy for the longest, so that's how I'm judging this month! :) The Holly and the Ivy (I always sing the name of this polish to the tune of the song every time I see it) is a milky white polish sprinkled with various sizes of red and green glitters. This polish is just full of Christmas spirit and I love it!

Make-up/Beauty Product

When I went home for Christmas I didn't bring my trusted Urban Decay Naked2 palette home with me, so instead I relied on my old favourite the CoverGirl Shimmering Sands trio eyeshadow. For a drugstore eyeshadow the quality is so good - the shadows are pigmented and blend well. I especially love the lightest shade, it can double as a great highlighter!

TV Show

Scandal is a fantastic show starring the lovely Kerry Washington. It centres around Olivia Pope, a former White House Communications Director who now runs her own crisis management firm. Basically, she's a "fixer" for all of the major scandals that arise in the media. The show was created by Shonda Rhimes of Grey's Anatomy fame, so it shares a similar dialogue tone. Scandal is currently in its second season and is getting better week after week!

Movie

As a life-long fan of the musical version of Les Mis, I was both excited and scared for the movie adaption. While there were some disappointing parts (*cough* Russell Crowe, some lyric changes...) I loved the movie overall. The live singing took some getting used to, especially since I'm so used to listening to the flawless 10th Anniversary Cast Recording, but it worked in the context of the movie. I've seen it twice so far and would seriously not balk at going again a third time!

Song

I listen to Christmas music all year round, but there's just something special about it in December! My all-time favourite Christmas album is The Carpenter's Christmas Portrait. The whole album is basically flawless and flows as a continual song, which makes it difficult to pick just one! This year I was really feeling "It's Christmas Time", which is a short little interlude-type song that I often overlook. It has a choir, rounds, and lots of triplets! What's not to love?

Food

Turkey + stuffing. Enough said. (Yum).

Book

I'm currently reading Donna Tartt's The Secret History, which I started in December so it is totally eligible for this list. :) I'm only about 15% into it so far, but I'm really liking it. I have a love of any and all things Ancient Greek/mythology, so the story is very intriguing so far. As a side note: I've challenged myself to read 75 books in 2013...I don't know if this is brave, foolish, or possibly both. Only time will tell! (And if you have a Goodreads feel free to add me, I love to see what books people are reading!)

What were your favourite things in December?

    1. I've seen it spelled both ways, I think it just depends on personal preference :) I haven't read the book yet, but I've heard it's a challenging but rewarding read. I hope you like the movie when you see it!! :D Happy new year to you too! <3

  6. I'm currently trying to reread some of my favourites - Hitchhiker's Guide is next to my pillow right now.

That CoverGirl eyeshadow sounds amazing! The last thing I need is another nude palette, but I'm probably going to end up getting it anyway haha :\
